So, SOCOM Confrontation. This is SOCOM's first installment in next-gen. Now, keep in mind that this review will be about how the game is CURRENTLY, since there were a mountain of patches in the last few years. So, what do I think of it?
PRESENTATION: Well, considering this is only a multiplayer game, there's actually quite some variety. There are a plethora of maps to chose from, with some on them being favorites of SOCOM 2. Some of the maps can be converted to support either 16-player battles or epic 32-player battles, and several can take place night or day. Character customization is also pretty deep. You can chose your Commando and Merc's face, facial hair, scars, uniform, and even alter how much body armor and leg protection the person wears. The more armor and protection you have on, the more resilient you are to bullets. However you move slower.
And that brings me to my first issue of Confrontation: the encumbrance system. Now, apparently this is some sort of mechanic used to balance out weaponry and armor, ie the more firepower you have, the slower you move. This mechanic has been around since SOCOM 3. Now, I think an enormous number of fans threw a sh1t fit at how slow you move when encumbered back in SOCOM 3, because the encumbrance doesn't really seem to actually encumber you in Confrontation. Case in point, I was playing a game where I was wearing full armor, full leg protection, a heavy M60 machine gun, all the attachments, a heavy Desert Eagle, several claymore mines, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree, yet my character didn't really seem to slow down so much. I mean, really? Did you move so slow in the previous games that you decided to dumb down the mechanic? Maybe to make it more realistic? I mean, I know that soldiers have been trained to carry loads of equipment, but it's not like they should be able to move that fast across such large maps. Wait...nevermind...
Seriously Slant Six, why include an encumbrance system if encumbrance doesn't really do much? As a result, it all just boils down to whether you want light, medium, or heavy armor. In other words, you want to die quickly, not as quickly, or slowly? Your choice. But aside from that gripe, it's not bad.
GRAPHICS: Pretty good. Character models move realistically, and have a sense of weight and gait, unlike other shooters where you look like you're walking on air or something like that. Environments are also quite detailed, some of which have elements like snow. However, there can be a few texture pop ins, especially with large amounts of players. And they could have done better with water effects.
GAMEPLAY: I've never played an actual SOCOM game for years, so I can't really judge how this is compared to other SOCOM games, which is more or less how people who heard about this (much less buy it) judge this game. It your traditional third person shooter, hell almost a third-person Modern Warfare. Not much to say except for two main gripes.
One: the leaning. Why? Why is it so broken? You can't throw a grenade nor fire your weapon effecticely when leaning, so why the hell use it, especially since corner-camping is much more effective, abeit more noobish? Hell it's easy to commit suicide when lean-grenading, since the grenade has a tnedency to bounce off of the wall which you're leaning from. Um, ok....
Second: collisions. Why oh why can't I fire over rails or shoot through a net fence? Basic math, guys. If a hole is big and a bullet is small, the bullet will go through aforementioned hole. And if those holes comprise a mesh fence, chances are bullets will go through said fence. So why does it stop my bullets, eh? This isn't spherical trigonometry. This isn't noneuclidian geometry. It's common sense. USE IT! Because of those retarded mechanics, it really killed my expectations.
SOUND: This is where you guys shine. Guns sound very deadly and sharp, even when silenced. Explosions feel big and real. Play this game with a good sound system, and you're in for a blast.
The few music scores aren't bad, but nothing really too special anyways.
REPLAY: There are many game modes to chose from, and a healthy amount of maps. Cold Front DLC gives you 5 more maps, which is even a bigger plus for me since I love the hell out of arctic battlefields. Been playing this for months and still not tired of it.
IN CONCLUSION:
Confrontation is really worth the money. Glaring flaws such as collision mechanics really killed a few vital spots, but all in all it's the best SOCOM game I've played. Now, before you Zipper-fanboys pee your ACU-patterned underpants, I have never played your legendary SOCOM 1, 2, or 3. So no, I'm not comparing Confrontation to your precious little SOCOM 2 or whatever. No need to flame me for having an opinion.

The only glitches which I notice are the invisible walls.
